Since the last century Hortobágy, famous for its horse and shepherd traditions, has had a competition of local horsemen and shepherds comparing their skills.
The official framework of the event has been provided by the Hortobágy Horse Days which has become an internationally recognised tourist programme. This year it will be organised between July 6 and 8, and according to the traditions athletes will compete in several categories – show jumping, coach and two, coach and five, pony gallop, horse runs, etc. The event will be accompanied by national folk art and crafts fair, furthermore horse show from the times of the Hungarian conquest in the 9th century, hussar recruitment, camp of short-stocked ornamental long whips, and baranta demonstration. All this will take place at the world heritageHortobágyNational Parkwith exciting programmes not only for horse lovers.
