International Women’s Day on 8 March

Culture

International Women’s Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year.

In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements.

The earliest Women’s Day observances were held on many different dates: May 3, 1908, in Chicago; February 28th, 1909, in New York; and February 27, 1910, in New York.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Equality for Women is Progress for All”.
