The government and health care sector are working to get as many vaccines as possible, as it is clear that it is only by starting mass vaccinations that restrictions can be lifted, said National Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller in a briefing from the operational board on Tuesday. However, the number of vaccinees is still small, which is why it is not justified to lift the various protection measures, the chief medical officer emphasized.

Cecília Müller began the operational board’s announcement on Tuesday with the fact that nearly 100 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, and the number of victims is around 22 million. The vaccination process, on the other hand, is slow, according to the national chief medical officer. The expert called the Hungarian epidemiological processes favorable again.

All 25 vaccination points are active

Said Cecília Müller, adding that the rate of vaccination depends solely on vaccine shipments.

So far, five Pfizer and one Moderna shipments have arrived, of which 165,000 people have been vaccinated. A Pfizer shipment arrived on Monday and Tuesday, and a Moderna package on Sunday, enough to vaccinate a total of 45,000 people.

Speaking of the 12,000 Hungarian victims, Cecília Müller said that

4 percent of them had no underlying disease.

The chief medical officer told health workers that they wanted to slowly come to the end of their vaccination campaign because many others are still waiting to be vaccinated.

Anyone of the health workers who has not been vaccinated is asked to do so if they wish.

Vaccination will follow in some 1,600 nursing homes and 300 other residential institutions. Cecília Müller said that

there are few vaccines that is why the campaign has only reached 80 institutions so far.

Despite the favorable epidemiological data, the threat has not passed, Cecília Müller said, talking about viral mutations that could still be a problem.

Vaccines appear to work against the British variant, but no data are yet available for the Brazilian or African versions.

Cecília Müller reported that the amount of coronavirus hereditary material in wastewater decreased in several places and stagnated in several settlements. All this shows that the epidemiological situation is favorable, she added.

No journalistic questions were raised this time.
