Joining forces to combat COVID-19

Europe

A growing number of countries worldwide are experiencing widespread community transmission of COVID-19 and a drastic increase in the number of cases. Many countries have implemented unprecedented control measures to slow down the spread of the disease. ECDC is closely monitoring this rapidly evolving situation.

ECDC is in constant contact with national authorities and provides them with assistance to reinforce their efforts to limit transmission of the virus. Health authorities in all EU countries are working tirelessly to slow down the spread of COVID-19. In the fight against the disease, it is essential to protect front-line healthcare workers who are faced with a dramatic increase of patients that is often beyond the capacity of the health system. To support these efforts, ECDC has developed a guidance document on health system contingency planning.

ECDC provides risk assessments, technical documents and guidance to support EU Member States and the EU Commission in their response activities.
